Dear families,

Welcome back from the Easter break! I hope you all had a restful and enjoyable time with your loved ones. To those who celebrated Eid, I trust it was a joyous occasion filled with warmth and happiness.

Although it hasn't been long since my last communication, our school has been a hive of activity these past two weeks. Our pupils have been busy learning, growing, and exploring the world around them. I'm delighted to share that we've already managed two exciting school trips. Our Year 5 pupils ventured out to Lambourne End, while Year 3 enjoyed a fascinating visit to Valance House. These experiences enrich our pupils' learning and broaden their horizons. Rest assured, there are more trips on the horizon, promising even more adventures for our young pupils.

I'm proud to announce that a small group of our Year 5 pupils participated in the Mini-Marathon over the weekend. Their dedication and enthusiasm for physical activity is truly commendable. A huge thank you to Miss Goldberg, Mr Morris, Ms Daly and Miss O'Connor for attending, as well as crossing the finish line with the children!

At Roding, we're constantly striving to enhance our school environment. You may have noticed gradual changes to our school grounds, and I'm pleased to say this work is ongoing. We've recently installed a new display board on the ground floor celebrating Deaf identity, showcasing our commitment to inclusivity and diversity. Additionally, our reception area now boasts a personalised wrap featuring our school name above the London skyline – a visual representation of our place in this vibrant city.

The beautiful weather we've been enjoying lately has been a welcome treat. As the days grow warmer, pupils are welcome to switch to summer uniforms. For details on our summer dress code, please refer to our website. I kindly remind all parents to ensure their children come to school in full uniform, as this fosters a sense of belonging and pride in our school community.

Looking ahead, this term promises to be a busy one, brimming with learning opportunities and exciting events. I encourage you to keep a close eye on our events calendar to stay informed about upcoming activities. Your engagement and support in these events greatly enrich your child's school experience.

As we navigate this term together, I'm filled with optimism for the growth and achievements that lie ahead for our pupils. The dedication of our staff, the enthusiasm of our pupils, and the support of our parent community continue to make Roding Primary School a truly special place.

Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership in your child's education. Here's to a fantastic term ahead!

Warm regards,

Ms M Nwankiti

Headteacher

Roding's Reading Bus

You may remember that we were fortunate enough to be donated a bus by Stagecoach. Over the next year, we will be renovating it into a fully furnished reading bus. However, the children were too excited to wait, so we've opened the bus this week—and it’s already proving popular! Pupils have been making the most of the cool space and enjoying reading on board. We can’t wait to see how amazing it will look once it’s fully transformed.

YEAR 5 TRIP TO LAMBOURNE END

Year 5 had an amazing time on their visit to Lambourne End! The sun was shining, and the weather couldn’t have been better for a day full of exciting activities. The children took part in caving, archery, axe throwing, raft building, and tackled the ropes course with great enthusiasm. They showed fantastic teamwork, resilience, and excellent behaviour throughout the day. We were incredibly proud of how well they represented our school.

RODING TAKES ON THE MINI MARATHON 2025

On Saturday 26th April, 14 of our Year 5 students took part in the TCS Mini London Marathon joint by their families and 18000 children from across the capital. We arrived at the Horse Guard Parade at 10am in the glorious sunshine, where they warmed up with Joe Wicks and set off for the start line. Our Roding runners Miss Daly and Miss O'Conner ran with the children, although even Miss O'Conner could not keep up with the pace setter of the group, Harris. Each child crossed the finish line, being cheered by friends and family, with huge smiles across their faces and a few emotional tears. We could not be prouder of the children, they showed all of the Roding values as they ran. Miss Goldberg and Mr Morris ran their own mini marathon, sprinting from the start line to the fan zone to get some photos as did many of the parents. As if the event itself was not enough, each child received £10 for the school from the marathon partners which will go towards our upcoming sports day in the summer. A HUGE congratulations to Sophie, Sophia, Melani, A, H, Frank, Victoria, Ben, Lily, Ethan, Jona, Treasure, Elijah, Dilara and ex-pupil and last-minute addition, Christopher. A big thank you to the families who came and the staff who supported. Miss Goldberg is extremely proud and cannot wait to visit again next year.

Reading Scrapbooks at Roding

Reading scrapbooks are a fun and creative way for children to record and reflect on the books they’ve been reading at home and in school. They can include drawings, reviews, favourite quotes, or anything else that shows their thoughts and enjoyment of a book. This helps foster a love for reading by allowing children to express their opinions, share recommendations, and celebrate their reading journey in a personal and meaningful way. Thank you for supporting your child with their entries—it’s wonderful to see how engaged and enthusiastic they are. Here are just some of the fantastic entries we’ve received so far—we can’t wait to share more with you!

STAFF SPOTLIGHT - Emilia Bundac

My name is Emilia, and I am a part of the Admin team at Roding Primary School.

My main job is working for the Inclusion team, but you will also see me at the front desk and in the First Aid room. I have been working here for almost 7 years and my favourite thing about Roding is how inclusive it is and how much everyone cares about the children.

I have an older sister who lives near me and my parents live in Romania.

My favourite things are travelling (I am always off somewhere), reading (or listening to audiobooks) and animals ( I LOVE ANIMALS). Some people call me Dr Dolittle, because I am constantly pet-sitting for my friends (I have looked after hamsters, chicks, dogs and cats).

I love my job very much, being around children and I look forward to being at Roding for many more years.

We know mornings and afternoons can be busy, and getting your child to and from school is a priority. However, we must emphasise the importance of being considerate to our neighbours.

We urgently ask all parents and carers to avoid blocking driveways, obstructing pathways, or double parking. These actions create congestion, pose safety risks, and cause frustration for other road users and residents.

Additionally, please remember that the school car park is strictly off-limits for parents and carers. This includes after school when collecting your child from a club.

For everyone’s safety, children should never be in the car park or use it as a walkway.

Parking responsibly is essential for keeping our streets safe and accessible, especially for our youngest learners.

Whenever possible, consider walking, biking, or using public transport to reduce traffic and promote healthy habits for your child.

Let’s work together to ensure a safe and smooth drop-off and pick-up experience for everyone, while maintaining positive relationships with our neighbours.

Thank you for your cooperation and for being a valued part of our school community.
