Dear families,

It has been truly heart-warming to welcome the children back after the Christmas break and see their energy, excitement, and smiles as they returned to school.

This term began with a special assembly where I spoke to the children about New Year’s resolutions. We explored how we can use our school values—respect, resilience, curiosity, ambition, compassion and independence to guide us in making positive changes and setting meaningful goals. Whether it’s trying something new, being a better friend, or working hard in lessons, these values will help us strive to be the best version of ourselves.

I hope you have had the opportunity to read our wonderful OFSTED report. We are immensely proud of the many positive things that were said about Roding and the quality of education we provide for the children. Notably, Personal Development was graded as Outstanding, a reflection of our unwavering commitment to nurturing well-rounded, confident, and responsible pupils. Our report is now available on the OFSTED website as well as the school’s website.

Not long after its publication, we were delighted to be contacted by local media who had seen the report and were eager to write an article about our achievements. You can read the article and hear what they had to say by following the link below:https://www.ilfordrecorder.co.uk/news/24865897.roding-primary-school-woodford-green-praised-ofsted/

We are incredibly proud of this recognition and grateful for the dedication and partnership of our entire school community. Thank you for your continued support.

Since returning in January, the classrooms are already buzzing with vibrant learning and enthusiasm. It's wonderful to witness their curiosity and engagement as they embrace new challenges.

The Spring term reminds us of fresh beginnings, growth, and transformation. Just as nature prepares to bloom again, so too do our children as they continue their learning journey. Before we know it, we will see the buds of spring emerging, symbolising progress and renewal. One of my favourite quotes is, “No winter lasts forever; no spring skips its turn.” It reminds us that no matter how cold or challenging things may seem, brighter days always come.

I would like to extend a special thank you to all our families for making a conscious effort to ensure that children come to school appropriately dressed in full uniform. This has been noted and appreciated by the staff team. When children are dressed smartly and consistently in their uniform, it fosters a sense of pride and belonging to our school community. Thank you for working alongside us in this important area.

As we move through this exciting term, please keep an eye out for updates about school events, activities, and key learning opportunities. We look forward to working together to support your children in achieving great things.

Wishing you a wonderful and productive Spring term ahead.

Warm regards,

Ms M Nwankiti

DANNY CROUCH VISITS RODING

After a month of fundraising, Danny Crouch visited Roding on Monday 27th January and delivered a fantastic workshop. He started his day by meeting those children who managed to raise £50 for the cause and then met the rest of Roding in his assembly. He treated us to his story, top tips for future athletes and lots of flips and tricks. Then it was time for the students to get active, and the circuit training took place.

A huge THANK YOU to Danny and the Year 6 students who supported our younger students. Lastly, a huge THANK YOU to our Roding families for their generous donations - we managed to raise a huge £1794 which will go towards supporting young athletes like Danny as well as nurturing our own young athletes at Roding. Danny said the children were so welcoming, and he would love to visit again in the future.

THE TINY BALLET COMPANY VISIT RODING

This half-term, we got our youngest students active with an exciting dance workshop led by ex-pupil Nicole and her partner Donna at The Tiny Ballet Company. The children had great fun moving, singing, balancing and jumping as well as enjoying the props on offer. Donna and Nicole were wowed by the children’s enthusiasm and can’t wait to visit them again. AMAZING HOME LEARNING - CRISTIAN

A huge well done to Cristian who shared amazing home learning with us today. He made a 3D coastal landscape using layered cardboard, plaster and paint. He added fake moss and used the plaster to create waves. We are incredibly proud of this hard work!

STAFF SPOTLIGHT - MR ALBERT

My name is Mr Albert and I’ve had the pleasure of working at Roding for just over a year now. I have been teaching for almost 15 years across various boroughs before joining this wonderful school community. At Roding, I wear a few different hats — I teach Year 5, lead English across the school, and serve as an Assistant Headteacher, working closely with Ms. Nwankiti.

One of the things I enjoy most about my role is leading English. So far, one of my proudest achievements has been overhauling the reading curriculum to ensure all children have access to diverse, engaging, and captivating books to enjoy both at school and at home. Nothing makes me happier than seeing a child fully immersed in a good book!

Since joining Roding, I’ve been filled with enthusiasm and inspired by the energy and creativity of the children. Something interesting about me is that I have a deep love for poetry. I enjoy writing poems on my own, collaborating with friends, and working alongside children to create something meaningful. I’m keen to do this with more children at Roding, so keep an eye out for opportunities to get involved. In the past, I have even set up a rap club, which I’m hoping to start here soon — watch this space!

My favourite thing about Roding has to be the children. Nothing brings me more joy than watching their curiosity for learning blossom and seeing their confidence grow.

In my spare time, I enjoy making music, visiting the gym, and spending time with my own family. If you see me around the school and have poetry to share, please don’t hesitate to stop me and tell me about it. I’d be lucky to hear it!
