Free Christmas Holly Transparent Background, Download Free ...Dear Families,

As we approach the end of this term, I want to reflect on what has been an incredible and successful few months here at Roding. Your support and engagement have played a vital role in making this term so special—thank you for being part of our journey.

This term saw the introduction of our six school values, which have truly exploded onto the scene! It’s been amazing to see children not just embracing these values but living and breathing them every day. The energy and enthusiasm they’ve shown have been inspiring, and we are so grateful for your support in reinforcing these values at home.

Our classrooms have been buzzing with excitement and learning. From exploring World War II in History to creating impressive structures in DT, the children’s curiosity and creativity have shone through. We’ve also delved into some incredible books, such as Toys in Space, The Bear and the Piano, Goodnight Mr. Tom, and Mohinder’s War. These stories have sparked deep discussions, imaginative thinking, and a love for literature.

This term, we introduced new and successful clubs, including Karate, Knitting, and Magical Maths. These have been a hit with the children, and we’re thrilled to announce even more exciting opportunities next term, such as Fencing and Pilates. How wonderful it is to see our children embracing new experiences and interests!

This half-term has been filled with Christmas magic, alongside the continued focus on learning. We held two beautiful services with our new Reverend, Alexandra, who has been a wonderful addition to the Roding community. She’s excited to work closely with us as a school governor. Our two successful discos, complete with a headteacher moonlighting as a DJ, brought so much joy to the children. Thank you to all the parents who helped make these events possible. The funds raised will be reported soon, and they will go toward enhancing our school. These moments are part of our promise to provide not just an excellent education but also joyful, memorable experiences for our children.

This term also showcased the incredible talents of our students. A heart-warming performance of the birth of Jesus through song was watched by many of you. In addition, our Inspirational Choir performed outside CO-OP for families and the community. Not forgetting the Orchestra and Steel Pan Club who put on a fantastic concert in front of parents. We are so proud of our talented children!

This term also saw the long-awaited OFSTED inspection. While we are awaiting the final report, I am pleased to share that it went well, and there is much to celebrate. The children and staff team made us all proud.

Sadly, we will be saying goodbye to Ms. Tehseen, 4T’s class teacher, at the end of this term. She has been a wonderful asset to our school, and we wish her all the best in her future endeavours. We are delighted to welcome Mr. Tom Hall, who will be joining us as the new 4T teacher in January. Mr. Hall brings valuable experience from his time teaching in inner London and is eager to join our fantastic team.

On a personal note, I am incredibly proud to have completed my first term as the full-time Headteacher of Roding. The children amaze me every day, and their achievements fill me with pride. Here’s to the rest of the school year and the successes it will bring.

Season’s Greetings to all of you, and a Merry Christmas to those celebrating. I wish you a safe and happy New Year, and I look forward to welcoming you back on Tuesday, 7th January 2025.

Warm regards,

Ms M Nwankiti

This week, Reception had a very special visitor—Santa himself! The children were thrilled to meet him, share their Christmas wishes, and receive a little gift to celebrate the season. It was a magical experience, and their excitement and joy were a delight to see. Thank you for helping to make this time of year so special for our Reception children! 🎅✨

DEAF FESTIVE PARTY

Roding Primary School with Provision for Deaf Children hosted an amazing Deaf Festive Party on Monday 2nd December 2024 to make connections with the parents of Deaf children and outreach professionals within the borough of Redbridge. A fantastic time was had by all and we hope to host more events in the future - so watch this space!

One of our pupils wanted to write about the special day and tell everyone how much they enjoyed it.

On Monday, there was a Deaf Festive Party held at Roding Primary School. I heard that I was invited to the party, and I was amazed to discover that I would be there too! All the Deaf children were so excited to see that the kind teachers brought and made scrumptious snacks - they sure were yummy!

There was face-painting, pin the hearing aid on the snowman, and we could even design our own cookies!

To my surprise, there were Deaf children from different schools with their mums. It was nice to make new friends. Also, I met some more teachers of the deaf and my teacher said it was nice to see our old friends from Oaks Park - it was such a lovely surprise!
We all had so much fun …I wish we could do it again!

We would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone of the importance of wearing the correct school uniform. As a school we have high expectations around uniform. Our uniform not only fosters a sense of pride and belonging within our school community but also ensures that all pupils feel equal and focused on their learning.

By wearing their uniform smartly, children represent our school values and set a positive tone for their day. We kindly ask for your support in ensuring that your child comes to school each day wearing the full, correct uniform, including appropriate footwear and any necessary accessories, such as PE kit on PE days.

Thank you for your continued cooperation and for helping us maintain high standards across the school. Together, we can ensure our students are set up for success.

SPORTS FOR CHAMPIONS UK

We are thrilled to announce that we will be hosting an inspirational workshop with gold medal gymnast Danny Crouch. He needs our help to raise funds for vital training, medical and competition costs to continue fostering the young athletes of the country. Money raised will also benefit Roding in helping our sports facilities and young sports people to grow. This week, your children will come home with a fundraising form with all the necessary instructions.

You can sponsor (and find more information) using the link - https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/roding-primary-schoolfundraiser - or scan the QR code on the sponsorship forms. We will not be accepting cash. Please follow the instructions carefully and remember to add your CHILD'S NAME AND CLASS. This will allow us to see the money raised by individual children and share the prizes accordingly. All children will take part in the workshop and receive a sticker for their efforts.

Any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Yours in Sport

Miss Goldberg (PE Lead)

SCHOOL DISCOS

What an incredible night (actually, TWO incredible nights) we had at our school discos!

We’re thrilled to say they were a huge success, with the added bonus of raising money for the school—stay tuned for the grand total coming soon.

The highlight of the evening? Our very own headteacher doubling as DJ Extraordinaire, while the children taught us some very interesting new dance moves. Staff couldn’t resist joining in, proving that we’ve still got it... well, some of it.

But the real showstoppers? Mrs. Cohen taking to the stage AND an unforgettable group Macarena with pupils and staff alike. Let’s just say it was legendary!

Thank you for all your support—we can’t wait for more fun and fabulousness in 2025!

TAG RUGBY TOURNAMENT

On Wednesday 20th November, 18 pupils from Years 3 and 4 took part in a Tag Rugby Tournament against other local Redbridge schools. The tournament was held at Wanstead Rugby Club on a beautifully sunny - but bitingly cold - day.

Our pupils’ attitude, manners and willingness to participate on the day were impeccable throughout. They were organised into 2 rugby teams; both playing 3 group games in good spirits.

Team “Roding 2” played against some stiff opposition. After drawing 1-1 in their first game against St Aiden (Chloe with the Try), they lost 3-0 to Gearies and 6-0 to Aldersbrook. Both teams were clearly full of experienced rugby players, so losing in these games should bear no shame. They did our school proud with their attitude and resilience.

Team “Roding 1” played some fabulous rugby, winning all their group games – 2-1 (against Avon House, 5-4 against Aldersbrook and 4-1 against Gearies. Cormac, Teddy and Daniel were all Try scorers on multiple occasions. This meant “Roding 1” played in the Finals, drawing 1-1 with Ray Lodge, then drawing 1-1 with Alderbrook in the final game of the tournament – Teddy with both goals in each game.

The whole tournament lasted for 4 and a half hours, so huge credit must go to our pupils. Each and every pupil was a credit to the school. A wonderful experience for our enthusiastic and dedicated children.

A huge thank you to Rob and his team at Wanstead Rugby Club, who volunteered to coach the teams and ensure they were set for the event. If Tag Rugby sounds like your thing, no matter the age, then do contact staff at the club for more information. We look forward to working with them again soon!

STAFF SPOTLIGHT - MRS C EDWARDS

My name is Claire Edwards and I am an Assistant Head Teacher at Roding. I have worked at Roding for the last 20 years, starting out as a newly qualified teacher and then being blessed with many professional opportunities along the way, including being Phase Leader of Early Years. I have taught year groups across the school, and over the years supported amazing staff, children and parents, leading to me feeling very much part of the Roding Community.

My current role involves a variety of rewarding responsibilities. One of the most important aspects of my role is leading the safeguarding team, where I work closely with families who need additional support. I am passionate about investing in people, through mentoring teachers, supporting volunteers and work experience students. Over the last few years, I have worked to create many opportunities for the children to develop their personal development outside of the classroom. This includes ensuring that we offer a wide range of school trips as well as increasing the range and number of clubs on offer at Roding.

Outside of school, I have a beautiful five-year-old daughter who keeps me very busy as well as a crazy, ginger tom cat called Monty, who once climbed to the top of the Christmas tree! In my free time I love catching up with friends, going to the theatre and days out with my family.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas break and I look forward to seeing you all again in the new year.

As a parent or carer, you always want the absolute best for your children growing up. Having a good education is a great head start in life and crucial in creating more opportunities in adult life

Did you know that:

  • a child who is absent a day of school per week misses an equivalent of two years of their school life.
  • 90% of young people with attendance rates below 85% fail to achieve five or more good grades of GCSE and around one third achieve no GCSEs at all!
  • poor examination results limit young people’s options.
