November Newsletter 2024

Dear Families,

This week, we had some very special visitors—OFSTED! For Roding, this has been a long time coming, and we are thrilled to share that it was a very positive inspection, confirming what we already know about our wonderful school.

Our children were simply amazing! They spoke confidently about their learning experiences and proudly shared the knowledge they have gained across the curriculum. Their behaviour was exemplary, showcasing the school values of respect, resilience, independence, curiosity, ambition, and compassion.

Having worked at Roding for the last seven years, I have witnessed the incredible journey that we have been on as a school. Roding has truly gone from strength to strength, and I have to say, I am incredibly proud to be the headteacher of such a remarkable school.

We also want to thank you, our families, for your incredible support. Whether it was your kind words to inspectors at the gate, a whispered “good luck” to staff, or completing the parent survey, your encouragement did not go unnoticed. We expect to receive the final OFSTED report before the end of term, and we look forward to sharing it with you, including the final gradings.

Roding has been a hive of activity this half-term, with so much amazing learning happening across all classrooms. Earlier this month, we focused on Anti-Bullying, highlighting the importance of speaking up, and we encourage you to continue discussing this with your children at home. We also enjoyed a spectacular Beauty and the Beast pantomime performance—right in the middle of the OFSTED inspection! But, as they say, the show must go on!

As we approach the remainder of the Autumn term, learning will continue in earnest, but we’re also excited to see Christmas celebrations start to pop up. Upcoming highlights include class parties, church services, Christmas Jumper Day, Christmas discos, and more!

A quick reminder: the next newsletter will come out slightly earlier than usual, as the last day of term is Friday, 20th December, when school will close to children at 2:15 PM.

Thank you again for your continued support, and have a restful weekend!

Ms M Nwankiti

Our lost property is currently overflowing despite repeated reminders to label your child's belongings. As a school, we simply cannot store items for extended periods due to limited storage space.

To help you locate any lost items, we will now display lost property on a clothing rail that will be wheeled out into the playground regularly. Please take the time to check for any items that may belong to your child.

Please note, we will only keep hold of items for half a term. After this period, any unclaimed items will be recycled or re-gifted.

We kindly ask for your cooperation in labelling your child’s belongings to help reduce the volume of lost property.

This week, Year 5 students had an incredible Immersive Greek Day, where they dove into the fascinating world of Ancient Greece!

The day was filled with exciting activities that helped bring history to life. Students explored Greek mythology, learnt about the ancient Olympic Games, and discovered what daily life was like for people in Ancient Greece.

A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to making this day so special. Year 5 students now have a deeper understanding of Ancient Greece, and we can’t wait to see how they apply this knowledge to their learning in the weeks ahead!

A Huge Congratulations to Reggie!

A massive well done to Reggie, who has had an incredible couple of weeks showcasing his talent, creativity, and dedication to learning. Reggie earned the prestigious Heron of the Day Trophy after an outstanding performance on the pitch, scoring an impressive 12 goals across 4 matches—what a fantastic achievement!

But Reggie didn’t stop there! He also applied his creativity and scientific knowledge by designing and crafting a paper-mâché volcano, demonstrating his understanding of how volcanoes work. Using terms like "magma," "lava," and "craters," Reggie confidently explained the processes involved in volcanic eruptions and even linked this to how fossils are formed.

Reggie has embodied the Roding value of independence in these accomplishments, taking initiative and showing great determination. We are so proud of all the extra effort and learning he has put in over the past few weeks.

Well done, Reggie—you’re an inspiration to us all!

SPOTLIGHT - REVEREND ALEXANDRA PODD

I am the Vicar of St Paul's Woodford Bridge, and I am delighted to be a Governor of Roding Primary School. I am passionate about education - before I trained for ordination, I planned to teach, but God had other plans!

I have been a governor before, taking a link lead with teaching and learning, and I saw my primary school through both a Church School inspection and an OFSTED inspection.

In previous years, I have led holiday camps, specifically for those who are care leavers, and/or have special educational needs and/or are of socio-economic deprivation. On these camps I also took a safeguarding lead, and worked with key partners such as schools and social services.

I am proud to be a part of Roding Primary School, and to support the staff, pupils and parents.

As a parent or carer, you always want the absolute best for your children growing up. Having a good education is a great head start in life and crucial in creating more opportunities in adult life

Did you know that:

  • a child who is absent a day of school per week misses an equivalent of two years of their school life.
  • 90% of young people with attendance rates below 85% fail to achieve five or more good grades of GCSE and around one third achieve no GCSEs at all!
  • poor examination results limit young people’s options.
